Should Transgenders Compete In Opposite-Sex Sports?

Certain people are concerned that there are transgender students competing at school sport competitions. The most recent complaint had to do with a pre-op girl who believe's he's a boy, is that fine?

This person, Mack Beggs, ended up holding the title for the school's female wrestling season for 2 years, even though he's been taking testosterone injections. The school has allowed this 'boy' to compete in a "girls league" because the district had ruled that students must compete in leagues according to the gender identified in their birth certificate's. Essentially, meaning even a post-operation boy can compete in full physical-contact sports within a female league.

Naturally, this has caused quite a stir within the more conservative, traditional crowd. Many believe they should compete in leagues according to their birth gender, which has caused many progressive communities to oppose it as every individual has their own particular case and are affected differently (emotionally, psychologically, etc). Lots of people see a problem with transgender students competing in the "wrong league", I am not one of them.

It seems as though many people on both sides of the argument are ignoring a key point to all of this. Did these transgender students break any of the rules, or break any serious rules (ones that normally can be applied with exceptions)? For the most part, there hasn't been any serious rules broken, not even with taking testosterone injections (in some cases). Transgender athletes have been following the rules, and have accepted that they must fall into one gender based league or the other, but conflicted groups and emotions are causing problems for these gifted students.

Personally, I believe that there shouldn't be a league for different genders for most sports. I'd like to see a professional basketball league with female/male players (including transgenders, etc), competing for the MVP of the year. Not only in basketball but football, soccer... hell, even boxing and mixed martial arts. I think individuals have a lot to prove, and if people really do believe they are the best or have the best skills in their particular field, then they should prove it and out compete the best in their field.. regardless of sex.

Just like the transgender bathroom debate, the transgender sports debate is just petty. There is a simple fix, but people want to make things complicated. Let's make these leagues more progressive, so long as the competitors can compete. What do you all think?
