Hurricane Michael Could Be Strongest Hurricane To Hit Florida Panhandle


Hurricane Michael is currently cruising up the Gulf of Mexico heading towards Tallahassee and could be as powerful as a category 4 hurricane (NHS) once it makes landfall around 1-5pm EST Wednesday afternoon (October 10, 2018). This could be the strongest hurricane ever to hit the Florida Panhandle.

A hurricane warning has been posted for many coastal cities of the Florida Gulf coast from the Alabama/Florida border to the Suwanee River. This also includes Pensacola, Panama City, Destin and the Florida Capital, Tallahassee. Pensacola International Airport, and Tallahassee International Airport has been closed for wednesday and thursday (and if damage is significant they made be closed for an extra 3-5 days). State of emergency has been declared for Florida, Georgia, and Alabama by their respective governors. Mandatory evacuation have been declared by cities that may suffer the most impact, 180,000 residents could be affected by local evacuation efforts.
